School-Parent Compact For Success

We believe that by taking shared responsibility for learning, we can insure that the children enrolled in Cesar Chavez Academy will be successful learners and members of our community.

At the Cesar Chavez Academy the staff, parents and students pledge to work together to:

  • Set high standards and expectations for all children;

  • Provide and support sound instruction for all children;

  • Make our school safe and drug free; and

  • Apply modern technology in our daily learning.

High Standards:

  • Cesar Chavez Academy agrees to offer a rigorous and challenging academic program and, more specifically:

  • The Cesar Chavez Academy agrees to provide extended learning opportunities and to assign meaningful homework, with an emphasis on writing in all content areas.

  • Cesar Chavez Academy parents will insure that their children come to school each day neatly dressed in their uniform and prepared to learn.

  • Cesar Chavez Academy students will come to school each day planning to succeed.

Shared Responsibility:

  • Cesar Chavez Academy parents agree to monitor homework completion and to send students to school prepared to learn and on time.

  • Cesar Chavez Academy students will complete their homework assignments daily.

  • Parents also agree to support learning at home by reading at least 20 minutes with their child every night and will also provide a regular time and quiet atmosphere for children to complete homework.

  • Cesar Chavez Academy staff agree to communicate regularly with families about student progress.

  • Cesar Chavez Academy parents agree to attend all parent-teacher conferences each year.

Cesar Chavez Academy agrees to involve parents in school governance as follows:

  • Cesar Chavez Academy parents agree to volunteer whenever possible during the school year and assist the Board of Directors and the Parent Association in fundraising and other activities that support the mission of the school.

  • Cesar Chavez Academy parents will insure that children are in school everyday, except for illness or other legitimate reason. Parents agree to make every attempt to schedule appointments after school, or late afternoon whenever possible.

  • Cesar Chavez Academy parents understand that the school year and school day will be longer to support greater learning opportunities.

  • Cesar Chavez Academy parents agree to assist their children with projects and will attend student presentations and performances whenever possible.

  • Cesar Chavez Academy students will help their teachers and classmates.

  • Cesar Chavez Academy students will follow the student handbook

Safe Schools:

  • Cesar Chavez Academy staff and Board will set firm and fair safety, discipline and drug enforcement policies.

  • Cesar Chavez Academy parents agree to speak to their children about the dangers of drugs, alcohol and weapons.

  • Cesar Chavez Academy students will serve as role models to their peers by following the school’s code of discipline and uniform policy.

Modern Technology:

  • Cesar Chavez Academy will provide all children with access to the tools and technology that is needed to be an active learner. This will be done as follows:

  • Cesar Chavez Academy parents will encourage and support their children’s use of technology by reviewing the school’s Acceptable Use Form with their child.

  • Cesar Chavez Academy students will use technology appropriately in school and at home. All students will sign an Acceptable Use Form.

Curriculum and Assessment:

  • Cesar Chavez Academy parents will support the learning of Spanish language and culture by setting aside time to practice with their child and attending school events whenever possible.

  • Cesar Chavez Academy parents agree to support the rigorous Core Knowledge Curriculum by asking children regularly about their activities at school.

  • Cesar Chavez Academy staff agree to support the curriculum chosen by the Academy.

  • Cesar Chavez Academy parents and staff recognize that student success on the CSAP and the Terra Nova assessments is an important component of the school’s accountability to the community.

  • Cesar Chavez Academy parents and staff agree to take the necessary steps to promote student success on these assessments.

Student Supplies and Fees:

  • Cesar Chavez Academy parents agree to purchase the school supplies required by the teacher and agree to pay, on time, any fees associated with field trips, the before/after program, extended day kindergarten, uniform or other fees.

  • Cesar Chavez Academy staff agree to make every effort to keep external costs at a minimum for parents.

Important Documents:

  • Cesar Chavez Academy parents agree to provide to staff, in a timely manner, the documents necessary for enrollment such as immunization records, copies of IEP’s, enrollment cards, any available student test scores, etc.

  • Cesar Chavez Academy staff agree to give adequate notice when requesting documents and to assist parents in completing any important documents.
